THE CONCEPT OF CREATING IN CONTINUOUS CONCENTRIC CIRCLES

I was born in Berlin and have been playing the saxophone since childhood. While still in school, I participated in the preparatory training programs of Berlin’s music schools in Reinickendorf and Charlottenburg (City West) to study music. I played in numerous bands, including the award-winning big band JJBC, and was a member of the Berlin Youth Jazz Orchestra. After school, I worked for a year as a permanent assistant director and production assistant on various projects at the Deutsche Oper Berlin.

I studied saxophone at the Jazz Institute Berlin (UdK) and the Hanns Eisler School of Music, learning from renowned artists of the German and international jazz and music scene. I felt a deep connection to Arvo Pärt and went to study his music during my Erasmus stay in Estonia. This influenced my current band project, YOU AND ME. Additionally I am mainly focussing on my saxophone quartet CONETET and the improvising duo ESKIL AND AARON with Swedish pianist Eskil Roos.

I am studying musicology at Humboldt University Berlin while working as a saxophonist, composer, and musicologist. In addition, I work at the wind instrument specialist store Die Holzbläser Berlin and teach saxophone privately as well as at various schools.

THE CONCEPT OF CREATING IN CONTINUOUS CONCENTRIC CIRCLES forms my practice. It is the circular process of perceiving, creating, and sharing. It is a life being lived, where each circle is connected with oneself and others in a center, constantly expanding, creating a deeper connection. It is not static knowledge or control, but one of constant continuation and letting go. I constantly allow myself to follow multiple interests and intuitions, not following only one specific connection, but forming new connections. Still I find myself mainly focusing on sound perceiving, creating and sharing it. I believe we should be free and advocate for this. Collaboration is important to connect. By sharing my continous cycle expands.
